Bass Fishing Reel Tips
i need some tips and pointers on using my new baitcaster reel?
i am mostly using this for bass fishing and i need some pointers. first off, what pound test should i use, i got 10 Ilb fireline on it and i dont know if i should go less or more. i do get bird nests a lot and i might need different line. it is a 7 ball bearing pennacle. and for the rod its on, i think its a 7 to 7.5 foot stiff rod and i dont know if i need something with more flex so i can get further casts or not. also should it be a little shorter, it was a nice berkley expensive rod and hate to have to get a new one but if thats what i have to do,…o well. thx for anything
i have 11 baitcasters ranging from 4 pound to 20 pound tests I have caught more fish on 4, 6 and 8 pound tests than all the other tests there are. As far as the line goes, the rod length and backbone and line diameter will dictate what baits you will be using that reel for and the type of fishing (presentation) you will be doing. I (no one can tell you what line to use unless they know your favorite baits and presentations of those baits.) I do not use any lines other than mono-filament or fluorocarbon for leaders. I imagine you want a versatile set up that can be better used for all your favorite ways to fish and rightly so fishermen don’t have the inclination to specialize one rod and reel for different baits and fishing methods. I am sure a 10 pound will be middle of the road and work fine in 50-65 % of the ways you need it to so have fun learn to cast it into buckets from 20, 30 and 40 feet and on the water just stay away from structure. If you like dock, tree, stick-ups, weed lines, rock piles maybe you should use 14 -18 pound test. but your rod length is great for crank baits and spinner baits so 10 pound is going to work fine and increase your bites by 10 %
