Which fishing rod should I get??? please help!?
hello guys I have been fishing for awhile and earned some experience from my previous offshore trips. I am planning to buy a new rod so I could move on to some big game fishing next month/week. I have found this fishing rod brand, G Loomis Prelagic series, recommended by fishing buddies. I have got it down to these 2 spinning rods, they are 7′ and 7′6… I just want to know which one should I really buy because the 7′6 cause about 5 dollars difference. I also think the 7′6 has a bigger handle and it gives a security for larger fishes.I just want to know your opinions. Thanks

Well, G Loomis IS one of the best rod makers out there. Personally, I think getting a G Loomis as your first Offshore rod is not a good idea.
Why?
It’s like handing a novice Chef a set of handmade Japanese Knives; OR a Go-cart enthusiast the keys to a Pro Stock Car….Etc.
The point? Although G Loomis Rods are FANTASTIC rods they break like any other offshore rod. Although they, (G Loomis), have a great return policy, starting out with the “top of the line” rod isn’t a good idea. Your “buddy’s” suggested one of the most expensive rods you can purchase……
At $300 per rod, (the cost of ONE G Loomis Pelagic), you could have a whole OUTFIT that will perform just as well………..and be easily replaced if dumped overboard.
For $300 you could get a GREAT Spinning Reel and an Ugly Stik Rod such as this:

For roughly $230 you would have one VERY nice MH outfit for Schoolie fish & trolling Mahi/Kings Etc………something to think about.
Fact- Most Pro Offshore Capt’s use Penn, Seeker & Ugly Stik rods, (and Blanks), than any other brand.
If your dead-set on the G Loomis get the one with the gimbal mount………..
