Finding Best Fishing Waders for You
Do some thinking before you buy a pair of fishing waders. Are you buying them just for fishing or you will use them when you duck hunt as well?
If you intend to do fishing more than you will be hunting, in that case, the type of wader together with the thickness and color of the wader will be of the essence.
You also need to think about the type of fishing you will do. Obviously, if you are fishing from a boat, you don’t need any waders. Breathable waders have become very popular over the last several years. In some cases they are completely replacing the Neoprene waders.
Breathable waders are made from a permeable membrane such as Gore-Texâ. This means that moisture can escape through the wader even in the water. Another huge benefit of the breathable wader is the fact that you can wear it in the hot summer days and sweat won’t be a problem.
In addition, you can wear it in the freezing winter days with warm clothing underneath and stay dry and warm in the water.
If you are a novice fly fisherman, nylon waders are also a good choice. They are much better option than the rubber waders that most beginners use. These waders are lightweight, keep you warm and dry, but there is one big problem – they can get hot since they are not breathable.
Hypothermia is another problem because of the extreme cold in the winter days or even in the summer when standing in a very cold mountain stream for long time.
Rubber waders are still an option, but they are becoming less popular because the cost of the Neoprene and the breathable waders is no longer high. However, the price can be appealing to people on a tight budget. Rubber waders have three main disadvantages: they are not breathable,
there is no flexibility, and they usually weigh more than the other types of waders. You should always wear a belt with rubber waders. Belts are considered necessary for all the waders, but especially for the rubber ones.
Besides the type of material you want your waders to be, the fit of the wader is another factor to think about when buying them. Keeping dry and warm is a vital aspect with waders, but having them fit nicely must be second on the list.
When you wear ill-fitting waders, you will be uncomfortable as well as tiring easily. This could cause a wading accident. In addition, ill-fitting waders will limit your movements while climbing in or out of the boat or trying to climb rocks. All these problems can contribute to a wading
accident or a fall causing injury to your body or equipment damage.
Do not buy waders that fit too tight. They need to be loose enough to layer clothing during cold winter days. Also, during a 1-mile walk to your fishing location, you won’t be struggling with your waders.
Finding the right fit on the Internet could be a little more challenging. Send an email to an online store giving them your height, weight and shoe size and they should be able to fit well. If you visit the nearest fishing shop, you can try them on. Do not forget to do a few knee bends and walk around in them. See if you can put your foot on a stool while wearing them? Double-check the length of the waders. You don’t need waders that are too long for the reason that you will have folds, which will rub and wear out causing leaks.
When it comes to the boot and sole selection, consider what the waders will be used for. In what type of weather conditions will the waders spend most of their time? If you plan to spend most of your time in cold weather and water, the best option are the boot foot waders. They offer the best protection during cold winter days and you won’t have to fret about sand and gravel getting into your boots. The built in boots are very easy to put on and take off, they have no laces and are low maintenance.
The stocking feet waders are one of the most popular waders. They weight less than the boot foot wader does and you can wear different soled boot for various terrains. They have a neoprene sock attached to the bottom of the wader.
When purchasing boots for these fishing waders, buy lugged sole boots for fishing in muddy-bottomed water and felt soles on rock or gravel-bottomed waters.
We recommend that you buy a good name brand. You need to keep in mind that there is no guarantee that your brand new waders won’t leak. Bit if you get your waders from a reputable manufacturer, they will stand behind their product.
