Fishing Reel And Rod Parts

What is CAST WEIGHT of a fishing rod?

Can anyone explain what is CAST WEIGHT of a fishing rod? i’m gonna buy a fishing rod with these specs :- CAPERLAN brand, full fibreglass rod, 7 feet in length , size: 1.13cm, ceramic guides, polyamide reel seat and metal rings. Ferrule part connectors. EVA handle and 30-50g cast weight, —— so i wanna know is this a good product for sea fishing and for big fish, what is the maximum weight can handle by this rod, the store guy says i can catch up to 50 Lbs (pounds) max, is it true? please help me…

Cast weight is the weight range of lures/rigs your rod was designed to cast. In this case, it’s 30g to 50g or 1oz to 1 3/4oz. It merely means your rod will cast 1oz to 1 3/4oz lures/rigs the best.

Fiberglass rods are more forgiving when it comes to casting weights. You could go a little heavier or a little lighter and you will not experience major problems. A common problem for casting lures/rigs lighter than recommended cast weight: Short casting distance. A common problem for casting lures/rigs heavier than the maximum recommended casting weight: Line breakage during the cast. In extreme cases, you might snap a rod tip; this will happen to graphite rods a lot more frequently than fiberglass rods.

As for the 50lb comment, I think it’s partially true. You could probably handle certain species of fish up to 50 pounds if you are a good fisherman. But do not expect that you could handle all 50 pound fish the same way. For example, a 50 pound bat ray or a 50 pound yellowfin will fight a lot harder than a 50 pound carp. Bat rays got better endurance than carp. The sudden surge in power from bat rays is also greater. Carp and tuna will both make long runs but tuna will run at a higher speed; this along will make a huge difference. Tuna are also more agile than carp. A rod that could handle carp up to 50 pounds doesn’t mean the rod could also handle a 50 pound bat ray or a 50 pound tuna. :)
