Maintain An Organized Garage With These Tips
Maintaining a clean, well organized garage is a chore for even the most intrepid organizers. As a kid, being told to clean out the garage was a task no one ever wanted the parents to assign. Very simply, this job is tough, it is tedious, and it is time consuming. Furthermore, for most people, once the garage is organized, it can easily become disorganized if proper care is not taken. For many, the effort is simply not worth it, but having an organized garage gives you a space that is conducive to efficient cleaning, maintenance and storage for the entire home. Keeping this space organized is crucial if you want to get your whole household in order.
Before you go out and invest in an elaborate, modular garage organization system, you must first remove the clutter and take inventory. Taking inventory of your garage helps make the cleaning process easier because you can create a plan of where everything is going to be stored. With this process of inventory and clutter removal, things should still be thrown away. The next step should be separating your items into categories to help keep everything organized in place where they can be found again with ease. The first category could be titled something along the lines of “Things that should never have been saved in the first place.” This category is perfect for that broken 1990’s computer monitor that really has no purpose in the garage beyond the fact that you do not know the proper method required for disposal (Often, calling your local public services department can provide those answers). Once you have this category solidified, you should be well on your way to clutter removal.
The next category is “Items that are rarely used.” This sect is perfect for gardening tools that are only employed seasonally. The same goes for snow shovels, sleds, and other seasonal items. Many objects can fit into this category. Therefore, you may need to divide with a surgeon’s skill and discern what item should go where. Sport equipment should have its own category as well. Whether you are a master athlete, or just have a few things lying around, these items should be put together. A final category is “items that are not really useful, but have sentimental value.” These items need to be stored somewhere, but you should be sure to keep them safely out of the way. Chances are that they may simply take up space most of the time and having them get in the way constantly is a sure way to have a messy garage.
By now you should have an excellent idea of what items your garage holds. Now is the time to go out and invest in those organizational products that can work wonders. Shelving is crucial when one is trying to maintain organization in a garage. Storing items logically based on how often they are used is great, but if there is nowhere to put those items, you are out of luck.
Quality shelving can do wonders to keep your garage items off of the floor and out of the way. Shelf dividers are also extremely useful. They allow you to easily split your shelves into sections, making it easier to keep the organization going. Another great product to help with your garage organization needs is an under shelf organizer. This item allows you to easily hang items up that otherwise do not fit well on a shelf. Beyond that, several items that can cause problems in a garage are fishing poles and golf clubs. Neither of these items are easy to store, but if you are someone who uses these objects, storing them safely is of utmost importance. Try buying a fishing rod rack to store your rods and reels. This item can store twelve rods in an upright manner, keeping them safe and secure. It also comes with a convenient drawer for all of your miscellaneous accessories. Furthermore, this rack has wheels and it can be moved from place to place with ease.
The fishing rod problem has been solved, but what is one to do with golf clubs? A similar product, the golf organizer rack stores two golf bags, and has shelves to store balls, shoes and other miscellaneous items that follow you onto the course. These two racks help to keep even the most annoying parts of your garage neat and organized.
In the end, keeping a garage organized is not necessarily as difficult as it sounds. It is something that simply requires regular attention. Since many items in the garage are not being used frequently, things can often get cast aside and become messy. However, with regular maintenance coupled with the right organizational products can leave even the most challenging garages in an organized state.
