Fishing Reel Knot
Fishing reels what to get for 20 pound line?
i want a reel that will comfortably hold 20 to 30 pound line without it being tangled. I have one and when i put 20 on it stars to tangle and knot. Please help.
Actually, your problem may not be the size of the reel, but how you’re loading or using it. I don’t think the size of the reel will result in tangles with line which is too heavy for it.
If it’s a spinning reel, if you don’t put the line on (when you first load it) by letting it spin off the end of the filler spool so it wraps the same way onto the reel, it’ll be all twisted up and it will kink and knot when you start fishing with it. Strip the line off and reload the reel, and you should be in good shape.
If it’s a conventional or baitcasting reel, your problem may be backlashing when you cast, that is, the spool spins faster than the line is coming out, which makes line pile up inside the reel. Baitcasting reels have adjustable magnetic brakes to prevent this (tighten it a bit until you can cast without a backlash); saltwater conventional reels don’t, so you have to slow the spool with your thumb when you cast. This takes a bit of practice, but soon it becomes second nature.
Or if you loaded one of these reels by letting the line spin off the end of the spool, it will be all twisted up (the opposite of the problem I mentioned above with spinning reels).
Either way, replacing line or practicing casting is cheaper than buying a new reel you might not need.
