Fishing Rod Prices
Good price rod/reel setup for bass/cat fishing?
I’d like to keep it around 60 dollars or so total. Spinning reel would be the best. Thanks.
Having one setup for Bass and Catfish is very difficult. Sure, you COULD do that, but you’re going to have to sacrifice a lot for both of those fish. For example, you want a fairly “light” action rod for Bass, like a medium or heavy action. For Catfish, I wouldn’t want to use a medium action rod. Their mouths are very fatty and a solid hookset is pretty essential to consistently catch them.
Then you have the reel to worry about. Generally, a mid sized reel is for the Bass, and something a little bigger is more ideal for the Catfish. A mid sized spinning reel very rarely handles anything over 10 pound mono line. You need a thicker line for Catfish.
So, two setups would be the better bet for you. You can find a somewhat decent spinning setup for about 60 bucks if you’re patient. A budget spinning reel that I do use is an Abu Garcia Cardinal series reel. There’s a couple of different models of them, but I found both of mine on sale at Bass Pro for 80 bucks, which also included a decent rod. Another brand to have a look at is Shimano. They have some very nice spinning reels.
This kind of spinning setup will be fine for the Bass, but not at all ideal for the Cats. Again, for a Catfish setup, you’ll need something a little bigger. A reel capable of holding at least a 12 pound mono line, and at least a medium heavy action rod.
