Fishing Tackle Backpack
Camping and Backpacking in the Rockies?
So, I’m a 14 year old male who lives in Colorado.I’m pretty physical and i’ve always wanted to go backpacking in our grand mountains. Before you say anything, I AM NOT GOIN ALONE XD. I will have some adults and some llamas to carry the stuff. Now here’s a couple of my questions.
1. What kind of knife and gear should i bring along with me?
2. Is it even legal to set up camp anywhere you want when backpacking?
3. If you make a nice fire pit, is it legal to make a fire?
4. Should i bring a fishing pole and tackle to fish?
That’s all, so if you could answer I would appreciate it greatly! =P
yea, bout the llamas. the guy who owns them has two small children and i think they are coming so they are gonna ride them. I’m fine for carrying my stuff

I will say that the legality of setting up a campsite anywhere you want is questionable and varies if you are on USFS, NPS, BLM, or ColState property. What you need to do is check first when you plan your route. The Park Service will have one set of rules, the Forest Service will have another.
As for the fires. Skip the all together. You don’t need one if you have planned out the trip properly and have a good backpacking stove and the proper clothing and sleeping bag. Fires are nothing more than a pain. After you build one, you must get rid of the ashes and you cannot just build a simple fire ring. Leave-No-Trace camping policies are in effect on almost ALL federal property, so you have to be able to build a campfire, burn the fuel, dispose of the ashes, and then dismantle the fire ring so as to leave no sign that there ever was a fire there. So before you try doing this, take a class on Leave-No-Trace with an outdoor organization before you plan this trip. Once you learn what you have to do, you’ll rethink making a fire.
If you like to fish, bring the rod. Get one that breaks down small. Lots of people backpack and fish.
If you skip the fishing. You won’t need much more than a Muli-tool. If you fish, bring a fillet knife too.
Llamas? Eeek. That’s alomst as bad as burros.
