What line for carp float fishing?
I need to replace the line on my reel now but i am at a loss on what to replace it with.
i tend to fish mainly with a float and off the top with dog biscuits, but i do ledger aswel so i wont a line that can be used for all if its possible. The fish ive been catching are all around 10lb but there are fish in the low twenties so id like somthing to handle them incase.
So what is my best option… mono, flurocarbon, braid? What line strength? What colour also light green, dark brown, clear? What should i used for a hooklink and what strength?

Is there a lot of snags where you fish? If there is, you’ll want line on the heavy side, if there’s not a lot of snags, then light is the way to go. Lighter line turns into fish taking your bait because of no line detection, and more fun out of the fight.
Normally, here in the US, I use 12lb monofilament on the reels that I use mainly for Carp fishing. Our Carp are not as line-shy as the European ones, and since you’re using the float fishing method, I assume you’re not from the US. Here’s just a few different lines you could try.
Braid is thin and very strong, leading to less fish that are breaking line and easier bite detecting. The bad thing about braid is that there is NO stretch in it, and if you set the hook even slightly hard, the hook is likely to be pulled from the Carps’ mouth.
Fluorocarbon is invisible under water. Bad things about it is that there’s still not a ton of stretch, more stretch than braid, and that most fluorocarbon lines are “springy” or filled with memory. Since most Europeans use Spinning reels (I do too) you’ll want a limper line than fluorocarbon.
Monofilament is just the regular line. Not too visible, lot of stretch (good thing for Carp fishing!), cheap. I usually use monofilament for my Carp fishing and normally do well. I’d recommend it over most other line-types.
I’d say a quality 8lb monofilament line or co-polymer (practically a blend of monofilament and fluorocarbon, also a good choice for Carp) would do well. P-Line CX usually breaks at 3 or 4lbs higher than what it’s rated for, so 8lb line is going to break at 11lb or 12lbs of force. Sufix Elite is a good low-memory monofilament as well. I don’t know if these lines are available in Europe but these are good lines available in America.
Oh, and for line color, clear. It’s the standard line color.
