Fly Fishing Rods Uk

The different types of fishing, can someone please briefly explain.?
My boys want to try fishing during our upcoming holiday to the Lake District. I am clueless, but have been trying to get information online. I understand the difference between Coarse fishing and Fly fishing, but need clarification about Game fishing. What types of fishing in the UK (if any) can you actually take the fish home for dinner? I have purchased Rod licences for them, so no need to go into that. Thanks for your answers.
To target trout and salmon you need a Game Fishing licence. You can target other species like carp etc if you just have an ordinary National Rod Licence. Whether or not you can take the fish home to eat depends on the policy of the owners of the land – it’s their fish after all. Some fisheries will let you, while others won’t. Many of the ones that won’t let you take fish away will have a small shop selling frozen fish from the fishery.
Game Fishing is essentially any form of fishing where you are specifically targeting members of the Salmonidae family; that is Salmon, Trout and Grayling.
If you are interested in taking fish home to eat, you would be better of trying some sort of sea fishing such as beach casting, or fishing from a pier. Depending on where in the lake district you are, you might be able to go on a day trip to the coast – the Cumbrian coast has some excellent flatfish fishing, particularly around Whitehaven
