Fly Fishing Tackle
Fly Tackle Question?…..?
I am relatively new to fly fishing, this will be my second season. I just purchased my second fly rod and need help choosing a line.
It is a 6/7 wt rod. I use my fly rod mostly for crappie and sunfish but also trout. I like to cast the tiniest flies up to a Muddler Minnow. I have experience mostly with floating line.
What are the benifits of 6 wt vs 7 wt line?

Hey Chadd, thanks for the info. I already have a lighter combo, thats why I went with the 6/7.
i know cortland has a 6 1/2 weight line but if you have a 6-7 weight rod i would recommend a 7 WF (weight forward). it will allow you to cast with the wind blowing a lot easier simply because there is a little extra weight to it. i have a 7-8 loomis that i use an 8 WF on and i can cast right into the backing directly into the wind. i own a river guide business and all of the rods i have for clients are set up the same way. it just makes casting easier.
