How to catch salmon at night?
I asked a guy how to catch salmon he said that i should come at night and shine them. i dont know how to shine a fish. i know that you have to use and flashlight. also he said to use glow in the dark lures but i want to know if thats the only way. please explain to me all the steps and how to salmon fish at night?
Here are two ways that I know of…
Glow Lures: We use glow spoons, like Cleos, K/O Wobblers, etc. I carry a camera flash…that lights up the lure really well. This works best for deeper water, like lakes, and deep rivers
Shining: I’ve never done this, but I would guess that it works in shallow rivers, like when the fish are spawning in the fall. I imagine it involves a flashlight or head-lamp to spot the fish, then you would drift a fly or spawn sack with a split shot above it and try to “floss” the fish (drift the line into it’s mouth, then set the hook). We do this ‘flossing’ in the mornings…the rig goes like this…
weighted fly, or egg sack, or hook with orange pipe cleaner wrapped around it ——- with a small split shot about 1 foot up the line ——- and a small bobber or strike indicator slid up twice the depth of the water from the sinker (example: you’re fishing in 2 feet of water, so your bobber is 4 feet up from the split shot). This rig is excellent…I just caught three salmon this morning and the man I was guiding caught two more.
