when fishing for big shark in florida:?

how do i chum the water and what can i use for bait? i have a heavy duty rod and reel but i just cant catch any big shark

I can’t add much on to what “Cents” and “Injun” said. However are you fishing from the beach? Do you have a boat? If your fishing from a boat I can elaborate on that. I tend to do this when shark fishing: Try and catch some nice “trash fish” IE Bonito, Yellow Tail Jack, Barracuda. Those sort of things. The larger the better. What your going to want to do is butterfly them. That means fillet them almost all the way. Just leave a little on the fish so the meat does not fall off. Attach all of them to a rope and hand them off a cleat so they are just under the surface of the water. This is going to create a scent trail. Use heavy line with a heavy wire leader and as Cents said a 8/0-10/0 hook. Since your not fishing from the beach you don’t really need a weight, but thats up to you. Keep it off the bottom if you don’t want to catch any nurse sharks. You can use large mullet,smaller 1-2 lb yellow tail jack, and small bonito for bait. I like to keep them alive and just injure them with a small shallow slice or two near the tail fin. Sharks tend to like easy struggling meals. Shark fishing is a waiting game. The more scent you have in the water the better your chances. Hope this helps.
