The importance of proper water quality in aquariums

Nothing is more important than in aquarium water quality management. There are many excellent products out there to assist in water quality management, but in my opinion, there is still no substitute for water changes, good filtration and good nutrition habits.

Water changes, changing water in frequent, smaller amounts is better, larger less frequent changes. Make sure the water going in the right chemistry (pH, ect.) and temperature. I like to use reverse osmosis water, then the elements I need to replace it (especially for salt water or soft water Aquarium discus). Well or spring water is usually very good. Otherwise, use a de-chlorinator (sodium thiosulfate), if chlorine or chloramines are present (Wonder shells remove chlorine stabilize, KH, and add electrolytes). Water changes are important for nitrate removal and buildup of toxic organic and inorganic material.

Good filtration consists of biological, chemical, mechanical and antiseptic.

-Organic: target = "_blank"> Sponge Filters are excellent bio-filter (typically used in smaller aquariums, but there are more available now, as a sponge pre-filter for recording other filters as canister and HOB filters), getting wet / dry on a larger scale, fluidized bed and under gravel filter (your canister filter, web filter, ect also biological Filter-Be sure to change, not all media during cleaning. You want to wash out some of the media used in aquarium water. Ceramic bio-rings are available in canister filter Bio-filtration very satisfied). Live rock in a saltwater aquarium as a bio-filter. Biological filtration removes ammonia and nitrite from the water (anaerobic bacteria, nitrates in limited to remove quantities of sea water). Chemical filtration is achieved by carbon, zeolite (drinking water only for zeolite), and many other inorganic filter media such as resins.

Mechanical filtration is the removal of dirt from the aquarium on filter paper, cartridges, ect. Suction Excel for mechanical filtration. HOB (hang on the back-power filters) are also reasonable mechanical filter (Aqua Clear is not very good mechanical filter, but in general good bio-filters)

-Germicidal filtration is the use of UVC radiation or ozone to kill pathogens in the water. I recommend UV disinfection in each aquarium, especially aquariums with a high risk of disease rates for diseases such as goldfish and discus.

Good eating habits simply means feeding what the fish consume in 2-3 minutes (very generally), twice per day. Also with the help of a high-quality food that is easily digested is very important for reducing waste (Spirulina 20 flakes, HBH, Omega, Sanyu, Hikari, Ocean Nutrition excellent, TetraMin I think too much grain and digestible amino acids). Most fish food have available to high cereal content and not enough fats and fish proteins.
