How To Use A Fishing Reel
How do you determine the max wght line to use with a reel?
I do a lot of flipping and I always have on 10lb. test because that is the only rating I’ve seen on the reel I use (It says 10lb./250 yrds or something like that).
I have lost a lot of fish in weeds and around structure/ I’ve seen that the pros are using 20lb+ test when flipping. But, I’ve never seen a reel that has a rating for line that heavy (unless it was saltwater) so how do you determine what weight the reel can handle without knotting up or damaging the reel? Thanks in advance!
That rating is only for spool capacity.Try using 20lb power pro,nearly indestructable and much smaller diameter than mono.I use 50 lb test for all my saltwater fishing here in R.I. and the stuff casts great,never gives me any knotting problems and so far has survived everything a 30-40lb striper in the RI surf could throw at it.The 50 lb test is the same diameter as 12 lb mono so i’ll guess the 20 would be like 6 lb diameter.
