River Trout Fishing – Three Advancements In Fishing Technology
If you have ever been river trout fishing there are only two things you have in common with the old-timer trout fisherman; the river and the trout. These were the only things that have stayed consistent through the generations. A lot has changed from then to now.
Fishing technology has come a long way. Long gone are the fly fishermen who whittled away at a piece of wood to create a fine fly fishing rod. Long gone are limitations of only using live bait. Long gone are the days of only having one kind of line weight. Those days might still exit in some of the smaller towns and villages in the world, but in this era things have definitely changed.
Rods:
Fly fishing rod technology has gone away from simple wood rods and implemented fiberglass, alloyed and other mixtures of materials. The new designs strengthen a rods resistance to forces that would normally crack or break a true wooden rod. If you ever gone ocean trout fishing, you may have seen a fisherman fighting with a trout that is twisting and pulling the rod all over the place, yet the fisherman and rod hold true. The grip is consistent and the flexibility of the rod is amazingly resistant to cracking or breaks. These kinds of rods can last for years if not a lifetime.
Locators:
One thing that never existed in the old days was a GPS fish locator. These little gems can point you in the right direction when searching for the elusive trout. They are not 100% perfect, but they are good at locating the area where you will find fish. Unfortunately pinpoint GPS technology still does not exist, but if you are searching for a general area of concentration, then the GPS can definitely guarantee this information.
There are many that do not like these devices. Some comments, “Take the fun out of fishing”, “For beginners”, Unethical”, and finally, “A disgrace to the trout industry”. But on the flip side there are those that really like the devices and use them on a regular basis. Trout tour guides use them to keep business flowing and expert use them to give them the edge on other experts. No matter the opinion, they are selling well and here to stay.
Lures and Bait:
Lures and bait have come a long way. Artificial lures never existed back in the old fishing times. But now you can find artificial lures by the hundreds. Take for instance the minnow. There are more colors, shapes and sizes of the artificial minnow then there are real minnow bait.
I hope you enjoyed this short look back in time. Things were a little harder back then, but also much simpler. All you needed was a really good technique to catch the big one. With the newer technology you can expect more of a learning curve to become one of the best!
