What are the best places to fish from land in Tampa FL?
I am a student going to USF in Tampa. I love to fish, but don’t know how or where in Tampa. What are some of the best shorelines or piers in the Tampa area? What is caught there? What bait to use and where? What tackle and how to setup a good rig?
Like shrimpboat captain said above, Fort Desoto park. But on your way there you’ll find a couple of causeways that are really good too. Just off to either side of Pinellas Bayway (highway 679) there are really good flats. One really good spot is the north side of the drawbridge at Tierra Verde. Right now there are plenty of redfish and even more flounder. Flounder are usually caught on the sandy spots of the flats and out into deeper water.
Also check out the Skyway Bridge fishing pier. It’s a little slow there right now but the mackeral and kingfish should begin to pick up in the next couple of months.
