Fishing for Sharks??
Going to Tampa Fl this spring and wondering about how to go about fishing for sharks.
How do I catch them in the surf and on a pier. What bait rigs and bait would i want to use in BOTH situations? Also when fishing on a pier that is 40- 50 ft deep, do you fish on the bottom or top, and with what kind of bait, whole fish live fish dead fish- what kind of fish do i use????? how far out do you need to cast your bait when fishing in the surf for a 3-6 ft shark???
will my rod and reel be able to handle the stress??? it is not nothing special just one that i use for bass and northern pike in WI?
REEL-pinnacle solene bait-caster. it holds 120 yards of 12 lb line also gear ratio 6.2 – 1
ROD- a medium heavy power/ fast action/ that is 6′6″ long
will the 3-5 ft shark tare it up or will i be victorious????
Surf fishing for sharks in florida, can get you thrown off the beach
as far as piers that have 40-50 ft of water, GOOD LUCK
When shark fishing, you rarely have a choice of what size that you might hook into.
The rod & reel combo, is very inadequate. a reel that can hold about 250-300 yds of 30# line, would be my suggestion , as a minimum.
many years ago, i fished off the Sunshine Skyway pier ( while it was still used as a bridge ) & my standard tackle was a rod in the 40-50# class, a penn 9/0 reel, spooled with 60# mono line.
I would usually use a live lady fish for bait..
120 – 250# sharks was the usual catch. sometimes larger, seldom smaller
where i fished, the water was 15-25 ft deep couldn’t get within less than about 600 yds of the channel, without a boat
