Spending $100 on Fishing tackle, what should i buy?

I have a 100 dollar gift card from Christmas to wholesale sports and I don’t need anything but tackle,so I will be fishing for walleye and pike 75 percent of the tiime, but bass the other. What should I buy? I’m only looking for lures and a type of hook to go with a wacky rig or worms for bass. What are the must have lures for fishing these species? Thanks, Jed

Beginners Lure Fishing: Choosing The Right Lures

For beginners and some seasoned anglers it seems overwhelming to select the right artificial lures. There are many types of lures available and I am going to say don’t buy the expensive brand names at this time. You are going to lose a lot of lures in weeds, rocks, and even in the trees and bushes along the bank. If you stick with the discount fishing lures you will be able to afford a wider selection of the styles available. Some of the fishing bait for sale at lower prices are not as good as the brand names but you will be able to move up as you gain experience.

A popular saying is use bright lures on bright days and when the water is clear. Use dark lures when it is overcast or before dark. Also use dark lures when the water is murky or in shaded areas. With these things in mind pick at least 20 discount fishing lures to start out your tackle box. Select color and size, generally the smaller the lure, the more fish you catch so keep this in mind. Of your 20 baits you should have: crank baits, jigs, plastic worms, surface lures and spinner baits. Pick these out in various colors and sizes, and the size depends on what you rod and reel is designed for.

Crank baits are made of wood or plastic and generally have a bill or lip on them to make them dive when reeling in. The bigger the lip the deeper it will dive. The lip also causes the lure to wobble as it is reeled in giving it the look of being in distress.

Jigs are a weighted hook with a plastic skirt and at times a soft plastic lure attached. You can select from a wide verity of discount fishing lures or plastic baits in shape and color to match live bait. They are cast out and sink fast. They are fished by jigging the rod up to raise the lure and then letting the lure sink again. A strike usually happens when the lure is sinking so be ready.

Soft plastic worms are one of my favorite lures. They are fished slow along the bottom and the fish suck it up as they would a real worm. The worm has a hook embedded in it usually with the point of the hook in the worm so as to make it weedless. They are usually fished with a sliding weight on the line to take them down faster and to make casting easier.

Of the surface lures I like the Hula Popper or the Jitterbug the best. They are best fished in the early morning or late evening when the light of day is just starting or just ending. It is fished very slow, you cast it out and let it sit for a while, then when you give the rod a slight jerk the lure makes a popping noise or water displacement. These types of discount fishing lures are only two of the wide variety of surface lures for you to choose from.

Spinner baits are very popular because they catch fish. They are made on a shaft that is bent in about a 90 degree angle with a hook at one end and a blade or blades at the other. The blades or spinners turn in the water and the bait is made to be fished fast. Usually the hook is hidden by a soft plastic skirt that helps to add color and body to the bait.

You can add to this list of lures, but I feel that these are lures that the angler should not be without. From here you can go to more specialized and more expensive fishing lures as you gain experience and have the money. You can buy discount fishing lures on line or at your tackle store, but you are going to find better prices on line. Good luck in your fishing and your choice of lures.
